Kia ora, my name is Michael Steens, and I am the creator of Weka Digital Media NZ. I have been making a name for myself on the internet since 2010, producing video content from my little corner of New Zealand in my unique and unscripted way. I love to get out there to gather from the land and catch from the water, then cook up some mouth watering dishes . Before long, I found myself with a growing group of followers that enjoyed watching what I’d created. A Nice Catch
One of the species of fish that I love to catch, and is a favourite of many a fisherman here in New Zealand is the kahawai. Fun to catch and tastes superb cooked, the kahawai has fed generations of New Zealanders. (Pictured also is a Snapper)

Watercress Māori Boil Up
One of my favourite dishes of all time and one that is popular with Māori here in New Zealand is the "Boil Up". Watercress is gathered from 'secret spots' and cooked up with meat and vegetables. Some of my most watched and loved videos on my Youtube Channel are my Boil Up ones.

Smoking and Barbecuing
Another favourite cooking methods of mine is cooking on the (non gas) BBQ. Whether it's using charcoals or wood, I love the flavour that comes out in the BBQs that I cook on. Mānuka and Hickory are the main wood I use for imparting a flavour like no other.

Gathering From The Sea
We are lucky here to have rivers, lakes, the sea, and harbours at close proximity to gather food from. These cockles were gathered and then cooked the same day, as is most of the food I gather.
